Uneducated Suggestion
« on: February 09, 2012, 06:26:55 pm »

Hello,

I'm new here obviously, and further more, I haven't even started the game yet.  I followed a link to find this place, and am downloading the games as I type in fact, but I have not yet played nor know much about it, other than passing mentions and so on.  But, I was browsing around and figured I would offer a suggestion.

As the principal, not only are you around plenty to learn of secluded or otherwise desolate areas where students or faculty might meet, but also with the power of the principal, given sacrifices or arrangements, could create seclusion or secret hideouts if you would.  A great place to 'accidentally' come across and find an occupant doing something that might not be public worthy, a decent opening for blackmail.  Additionally, given that the game has no budget or funding principals, you could also offer unlockable settings, such as the principal approving the installation of a pool area beside the gymnasium, or a tennis court, and so on.  It would make good for teams, or those interested lobbying for such an arrangement.  As I said above, having not played the game yet, it's purely theoretical currently, however.  As a writer, I'd be happy to help in any story, especially interesting ones.  So, if there's ever a need for help in the writing department, let me know.  Thanks for your time.

As you know by now, assuming you played the game lol, there already is an option to build a pool and have a swim club, but tennis court with a tennis team...hmmm, that could be a future idea, you should talk to the people currently working on the game, abelius for HHS Redux and/or atztek1/mteir for HHS+. There are 2 different versions that have branched off, I'm not sure if you know but atztek originally created HHS2 and is taking a different approach to the game layout for HHS+ and has demos out for it now with a few events active, I think more currently thanks to mteir, however, i believe that abelius has stated that his version of HHS redux will have a layout similar to how HHS2 was, idr though and I can't really look through the forums now since I have to leave for college in about 15 min, hope I've helped in some way

Well, a key issue facing any of these games that run on borrowed material is consistency regarding images.

You can naturally take one of two approaches. The first is that you try and base what happens in-game around pictures you find that could support that activity or event. The second is that you use pictures sparing, opening up a wider range of scripting possibilities but losing some of the.... gratuitousness that one tends to enjoy in these kinds of games. Splitting the two, logical though it may seem, is unnatural from the player perspective. One moment everything has a visual aid, the next you're like an animal trying to find a watering hole in the dry season. Not a nice place to be.

Ideally, a game creator would like to represent all of the things you mentioned and more. Question is feasibility. A developer using the first method has to balance his decisions with picture hunting while the second doesn't.

So, I'd say that where we all can help these projects is to save any worthwhile pics we find. Who knows, maybe we'll find enough quality pictures to make even the most obscure sports clubs viable for a game. But tennis should be easy enough, same with swimming. Shame so many of the saucier pics are from the beach.... makes me wonder if Abelius or someone will put in some excuse as to why we can visit the beach and gawk at students. A school vacation perhaps?

Yeah, definitely. If I'm not mistaken (I need to refresh that info), there's some kind of spring/early summer vacation, and of course the summer itself. Even if school is closed I don't see any reason why would you spend those days rising skills at home, instead of being part of those full of possibilities trips.  ::)

And regarding the balance between text and pics... Well, you know my opinion on that... sometimes a extremely close-up pic could fill the gap, so you also can write whatever you want... but only sometimes, of course.  :)

For a Japanese highschool, early April through about mid-July is the first term, then they're off until early September. Second term continues until late December (right around Christmas time). Final semester starts up in early January and runs until early March.

So, breaks are roughly 1.5 months and then a few weeks in winter. Unless you'd like to use a multi-year game in which case the month or so between the years could serve for something.
