Title: Starting My Own School
Post by: TiberousBSD on December 28, 2015, 08:59:14 pm
So as a gift for my friend's birthday next year, I am starting a new school for her. She is into yaoi so it'll be an all boys school. I have the layout of all the locations and ideas for different events. Open to ideas but I was thinking of giving the player a few months before the school opens to find and hire certain npcs in the game beforehand as well as renovating the school and opening bits and pieces as the game goes on. Finally, having a large group of clubs, but a limited amount of space for them so the headmaster would have to pick and choose which ones are used so if she plays a new game and does new clubs, there would be different content for them. Ambitious I know, but I have some events planned out for each club. Suggestions, ideas, thoughts?

Quite ambitious. I recommend doing it in bite size chunks and doing lots of testing before moving on. That way if you run out of time you have at least your highest priority features and storyline working and you can expand later. Also this way if you find you want something to work differently you only have to recode a few things and not re-write a huge amount of content to make it work.

For example start with the introduction and do 2 clubs (to make sure the options, selection, assignment of rooms, etc work). Get them complete and tested to your satisfaction before adding more clubs or more storyline.

Next piece of advice: If you get help make them commit to deadlines. Help isn't help if it interferes with your own efforts. If they're just providing optional content this isn't as critical. Just make sure it is easy to include or omit their work in case it doesn't come through in time.

I might think of more stuff later but I think those bits will help you avoid many of the major delays I see projects running into.

Sounds like a real complex bit of work. Do you realize how big of a project that is? It can seem overwhelming.

I'm using Mindomo for all the mapping. Have the locations worked out, basic events for each place, named npc's written out and a few other things. Been mapping for over a year now. The main issue has been not understanding how the creator worked. But the more I play with it, the more sense it makes

I'm not expecting to receive this kind of information. The subject matter is very desirable.

Just out of interest did event files for this ever get released (text / proposed images etc)?
