Title: Intro Guides on Mod Installation and Mod Creation (VEE).
Post by: barteke22 on February 14, 2018, 03:49:18 pm
These guides will be mostly aimed at people who have no idea of how/where to start. Rather than explaining every little thing, I'll be pointing you towards info, providing pointers etc.
How much info will be here, will be mostly down to my mood, how busy I am - you know... human stuff.

The reason I'm doing this is that I've noticed a few people were asking for instructions for this stuff lately.

Keep in mind that any questions about a particular mod should be directed to that mod's thread. The same goes for Development questions, if you need help with making a mod, VEE, or any other development tool, you can ask about them in the 'HHS+ > HHS+ Development' section.

I've decided to move the old version (remade) + any future update to the link below.

HHS+ Guides: Intro + Everything (https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvTED09bEC1piBUXvdffjYg7LYqF). Wait a few seconds for it to fully load.

Below are direct links to each section (these seem to require logging in to OneDrive, thank Microsoft for that, use the above otherwise):

Alternative Image Version. Screenshots of everything in the above one:

Old text only version (works, but will be outdated):

Thanks for this, always knew it was pretty simple but like you said I had no idea where to start.

I've decided to move most (pretty much all) of the content from this post into the link provided in the opening post for design and ease of view that's better suited for guides.

This page will only have what's on it thus far, the version in the link will be worked on (while the old one won't) by the same work ethic described in the original post: When I feel like it :)

Feedback on whether it works and looks good appreciated here.

You can obviously also comment on any particular guide you'd like me to make, example: Event Properties, or 'How to do this and this...' - Just do keep in mind that this is meant to be guides-format, so the more 'general' the question the better.

Also, could this maybe get pinned to the top of the Mods-thread? - Thanks :)

This is confused me.  How do I add the Yaoi mods to the game?  I tried doing the step but it kept sending me a error message!

You'd have to be a bit more specific...

What 'Yaoi mods'. And what did you try? What error message?

If the mods are up to date, you have to follow their instructions - they might be different from the generic ones I have provided.

Please move this elsewhere, or elaborate on how this is relevant to a guide thread by for example explaining what you're even talking about. A crash dump doesn't tell me anything. I'd need the VEE, and/or a proper explanation. If you're referring to the use of the 'Orgy' op, as per its description, it's deprecated (don't use it).

Updated the main post list with direct links to each page.
Also updated my Mod Backup Tool (some visual fixes and support for backups from non-default scenario), if anyone actually used it.

Hello there Barteke22,

Just thought I should mention that I noticed each of the individual links you added recently require people to log in before reading (The overall link doesn't though), at least on my end as it seemed a bit strange was all.

Also I was wondering, if I produced a guide to using the mod creation tool I've been working on and submit it to you as a PDF or similar form (You can decide of course as they are your guides) would you perhaps considering adding it as a section?  Your guide is pretty much the place to find good tips for stuff so thought it could be useful if you think it would be relevant here :)

I'd write a lengthy paragraph going into the experience, but I think it can all be summed up by: It's a Microsoft product. Constantly adding/removing same features and instability is basically their trademark.

I was logged in when I tested the direct links, so I didn't notice, but it seems you can only share the main link publicly. 'Page links' were added (limited), then removed completely, but apparently they're still there (so who knows)...

I've provided an alternative image version in case OneNote is unstable like it was today (only direct links worked, couldn't change pages due to endless loading).

I have no problem with adding more guides to the list :) I could PM you a link to just work directly in OneNote if you want (I keep backups, so sharing isn't a problem).

That may or may not have been my initial thought.  I had written something along the lines of "because microsoft is microsoft" but thought it was best not to bring it into it :D

Ah well at least the main link works nicely anyhow!

A link would be great yep!  I will probably make it locally and then add it that way (Should work probably?).  We shall see how it goes ^^

Hey barteke22

Internally I've updated some of the docs.
- Basically I've collapsing a few of the events info docs into a single doc, and added some stuff I think isn't covered elsewhere.
- Some stuff won't be out there until 1.9.6: Rules treatment of reputation (it's no longer divided by 5).
- I've also linked 'addition info' to here (rather than  the wiki) as your stuff is clearly more up to date.

Your guides are obviously more comprehensive, but thought it's possible you'll have use for some of the info.
Copy attached in case.

Thanks, looks good so far :) I'll update the guides once it's officially released as some of them point to the specific docs.

So I finally decided to try and make my own events and now the VEE, world editor and file editor are not working at all.... I click on them to load them up and it does not even come up with an error it just turns off...
I literally have no more info on it... any ideas?

If you can play the game, but only the development tab stuff doesn't work then... that's a new one.

Can't really help you much with this, other than saying to reinstall + make sure all requirements are met.

Extract fresh un-updated 1.9.5 and see if they start then.

No admin loc or antivirus checking the game folder. Otherwise there's some stuff here that might or might not help. https://www.henthighschool.com/hhsplus/hhs-won't-start-up-all-requirements-are-meet/ (https://www.henthighschool.com/hhsplus/hhs-won't-start-up-all-requirements-are-meet/)

well the problem got sorted, just not in the way I had wanted. I did try reinstalling everything but it did not work.
The thing that fixed it was my whole computer broke and I had to wipe and reinstall windows.... hence the long time to reply whilst I got an install for windows.... but at least its working now :P

Hello !  I'm hoping you'll be able to 'guide' me to what I'm looking for :

A Guide to Making Items, and adding "Effects" to them.

I tried looking at the items in game already, like the "Slave Collar", which is supposed to 'effect' corruption, but the only xml I found has no information pertaining to that effect, and how it is implemented, it only describes the item and it's cost.

Can you help?

What you're looking at is the item definition, which describes how the item looks, how much it's worth, what it's called, etc.
For the actual effect, you need to look into the corresponding item event in Events\ItemEvents. If you're familiar with the VEE, you should be able to figure out how they work by checking out a few of the existing ones. There's also some good documentation on how item events work and how to make one yourself in the Docs folder, look for "Native & Item Events.pdf".

Yes, items are two-part if you wish for them to actually do anything:

Hey guys, I have started to work on some random events taking places in the streets, and I was wondering how the "city streets shared" work, specifically what streets are concerned or not when using it as a location?

I have some events in mind taking place in the residential areas like upper hollow, field street, etc... and was wondering if I should duplicate the events in each of those locations or if I could do it another way?
Title: Re: Intro Guides on Mod Installation and Mod Creation (VEE).

You can see what locations use that shared folder by opening the map (NormalSchool.xml) with any text editor and doing a search.

Post by: barteke22 on October 16, 2019, 02:07:34 pm
If all the locations you want to use are part of 'Shared' then the easiest way to avoid duplicating events is to check the Location Name in the Try-Phase.

I'm not sure what you mean? The big link works for everyone, the smaller ones only if you log in (thanks Microsoft)... I used what I was familiar with, and it doesn't look like Google Docs has a OneNote equivalent, which is more flexible for mixes of images and text.

They work for me.
-  You do have to read and follow the advice in barteke22's post above, if you want to directly access sub-sections via the sub-section links.
-  Alternately, read and follow the advice in the opening post (the bit beside the "The big link")
-  Or... just use "The big link".  Can get to everything from there anyways.

Hey, I know someone posted some good places to find images, but now I can't find it.  Any chance someone could post something here (or ideally if Barteke22 could put it in the first post)?  I'm trying to find some nice dark haired secretary with glasses pictures for Lydia and I'm really having no luck because all the sites I find have search by position or anime, not hair color or job or glasses.

It is certainly possible, but unless you know what you are doing it would be much less trouble to do a fresh install using the instructions provided on the forum.
If you want to try removing the mod manually then you will need to identify every file the mod changed, then replace them all with the original file. That said, you would probably be better off asking for help on the thread where you got the mod, as somebody there might be able to troubleshoot why the mod was broken in the first place.

I don't think they check here anymore, or at least not very often. Its fine, I was just curious if there were a way that I was missing since I took a look at the debug menus and decided I was too stupid to understand them, and that I could have missed the delete button.

Is there a way to make it present less often? It keeps triggering, and just having it appear less would be the next best thing

Yes.

Not sure what mod or event it is, but you can change one of the following:
* Increase the time between two events. Most events have a "Set Next Schedule" operation at the end. Just increase the time here.
* Add a random chance to trigger the event: In the try phase, add a "Random Chance" operation.
* Disable the event completely: Just clip the try phase.

Both are done by opening debug -> debug events -> find the relevant event -> double click on the event.
Then you can edit the relevant event.

Another way is in the Edit menu > Event Properties then change the Schedule Day to 9999
If the event is triggered by another event then clipping the the try and execute would work.
