It's alright take your time. Kinda bummed about having to reset the save but it is what is is, maybe i will try a new ending for chapter 1 next time.

The latest patch shouldn't break your save (hopefully).

Changed the patch slightly, see if it fixes your problem (you need to re-download it, link in signature).

« Reply #1504 on: July 25, 2021, 10:01:02 am »

the patch

I have two items that are more involved than simple typos:

1. There is a section after you and "that elf" evict the spirit from the farm, that includes a phrase that with the default brothel name, comes out as:

Quote
You have a good time with Goldie. It is very late when you finally get back to the The Rose Garden.

If you don't want to take the easy out of changing it to "back to the brothel", you can use this tested code in BKstory_events.rpy, line 3974, change:
Code: [Select]
    "You have a good time with Goldie. It is very late when you finally get back to the [brothel.name]."

to
Code: [Select]
    $ bname = brothel.name
    if bname[0:4].lower() <> "the " and bname[0:2].lower() <> "a " and bname[0:3].lower() <> "an ":  # avoid "the The Rose Garden" etc.
        $ bname = "the " + bname

    "You have a good time with Goldie. It is very late when you finally get back to [bname]."

========

2. There is a problem when using fix_description[fix.name + " description"] in 6 different parts of code; example:
-- BKinteractions line 1020
She tells you that she loves [fix_desc]
-- BKinteractions line 1426
            $ text1 = fix_description[fix.name + " description"]
            if not text1.startswith("to"):
                $ text1 = "to " + text1
            "[girl.name] is getting used [text1] Her progress is encouraging."
--
For "roleplay", this description string "to play a role while fucking." does not work for the second type of use, which would require the noun form (gerund) of the verb, "playing" :

She tells you that she loves to play a role while fucking.
[girl.name] is getting used to play a role while fucking. Her progress is encouraging.

One way to overcome this conflict in usage seems to be changing all fix_description[fix.name + " description"] that have "(verb)" or "to (verb)",
to use "(verb)íng" instead, making the description a noun phrase.

These examples would become:
She tells you that she loves playing a role while fucking.
[girl.name] is getting used to playing a role while fucking. Her progress is encouraging.

(Also, safer to change  if not text1.startswith("to"):
to
if not text1.startswith("to "):  )

If you want me to make a full list of changes to save time, I could do that, let me know.

There is a problem with label city_impress, which starts at line 422 in BKcity_events.rpy.

I ran into the women adventurers when looking around the sewers location, but failed the "Flirt with the girls", "charm" test.

However, the end of event unlocked the "h impress" achievement, despite failure.
Also, looking at code, may have actually decreased prestige.

Looks like need to change lines starting 858:

Code: [Select]
        "You have earned a lot of prestige. You are exhausted and can no longer act today."

        $ MC.interactions = 0

    $ MC.change_prestige(result * selected_district.rank * brothel.get_effect("boost", "city rewards"))
    $ unlock_achievement("h impress")

to something like
Code: [Select]
        "You have earned a lot of prestige. You are exhausted and can no longer act today."

        $ MC.interactions = 0
        $ unlock_achievement("h impress")

    if result > 0:
        $ MC.change_prestige(result * selected_district.rank * brothel.get_effect("boost", "city rewards"))

Yeah, that looks like an oversight. Item effects ought to be initialised as a list, not None. If you want to fix it yourself, find 'BKClasses.rpy' and change 'effects = None' to 'effects = []' in

    class Item(object):
        """This class is for inanimate objects that the MC or girls can own."""

        def __init__(self, name, target, type, pic = None, template = False, rank = 1, max_rank = 5, rarity = 1, charges = None, price = 10000, effects = None, description = "", adjectives = None, sound = None, hidden_effect = False, pic_dir = None):

Wait one minute there, Jman...

Do you remember back in August 2020 about the "shared list" problem in class init?    list in Python class default is shared

So the proper fix is probably to add near the start of the __init__ stmts:

            if effects == None:
                effects = []

Looks like most-recent patch may need to have the default set one line earlier, to avoid error in BKclasses.rpy line 3889.

Change BKclasses.rpy lines 3770-3771
            self.base_effects = effects
            if effects == None: effects = []

to
            if effects == None: effects = []
            self.base_effects = effects

Looks like the new patch might be bugged. I was trying to enroll a girl in a class, and I got this.

  File "game/BKmain.rpy", line 2149, in <module>
    if selected_quest.type == "quest":
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'type'
Can't reproduce. Save?

Another exception, this time when I was trying to access my Girls list. Rolled back, saved, quit, restarted and got this.

AttributeError: 'Girl' object has no attribute 'return_date'
If that was after the last issue, it was most likely caused by it, with you having a bogus 'away' girl. Might be a good idea to default girl.return_date on initialisation, though.

Edit: And I wouldn't do rollback+save, especially after an error. Rollbacks can have surprising issues, and were always meant for rather linear VN's and not a game as complex as BK.

Do you recall if this resulted from assigning the only quest listed to a girl? (But you are sure this was trying to assign her to a class, not quest?)

You may want to delete the compiled game\*.rpyc files to force recompile next time you start the program, especially since two patches were released close together.

It is difficult to see how line 2149 could error after line 2138 did not:
Code: [Select]
            if selected_quest.type == "class":

maybe something about the renpy.restart_interaction() ?

I believe it was a class, but I couldn't swear to it in court. I'll see if deleting *rpyc helps.

I deleted all rpyc files from the game folder. (in ...\game, searched for *rpyc, selected all results and deleted).

Started the game and tried to access my list of girls. I got this. I just quit out of the game at that point.

As I said before, this is most likely the result of the previous error, and especially saving after getting an error, rollback or no.

You can try consoling this:
Code: [Select]
for g in MC.girls:
    g.return_date = -1
    g.away = False
But this gets us no closer to the root cause of the bug. Can you load an earlier save and get the same error again (the first one that had ' selected_quest.type == "quest" ')? If so, post the save just before triggering the error.

I'll see if I can find an earlier save. But just to be clear, are you saying that if I get an error I should quit without saving, losing everything since my last save?

I found an autosave dated 6 minutes before my last save after the error. I was talking to Bast in the resource exchange. I right-clicked to move out of that screen, and got this. I quit without saving.

Playing with the same version that I mentioned in my last post, sometime later. I was on the farm, and clicked to change the training program for one of the girls. I got the error below. I quit without saving.
